The impressive Sultanhani Caravanserai, built under the rule of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, was strategically placed along the Silk Road to support commerce and foster cultural interaction between China and Central Asia. Another significant structure, the Agzikarahan Caravanserai, served as a prototype for later caravanserais and held great importance during the Seljuk period when trade flourished.


Ideally positioned near several renowned tourist destinations in Cappadocia, Aksaray presents an exceptional combination of scenic landscapes and historical allure. The ancient city of Viransehir (Nora), once a vital military hub for both the Byzantine and Roman empires due to its strategic placement, features archaeological remnants from those eras.


The breathtaking Ihlara Canyon, stretching 14 kilometers and sculpted by the Melendiz River, is dotted with numerous Byzantine cave churches and chapels, many of which are etched directly into the rock faces of the valley, reminiscent of those in the Goreme region. Among the most captivating are the Agacalti, Yilanli, Sümbüllü, Purenliseki, and St. George's Church, each offering a mesmerizing glimpse into the past.


In the picturesque Güzelyurt Valley, travelers can discover remarkable underground homes and rock-carved chapels dating back to prehistoric times. The scenic Monastery Valley and the historic Sivisli Church are also noteworthy, though they currently require more preservation and care.


Towering over the plains of Anatolia, Mount Hasan is a majestic extinct volcano and one of the tallest peaks in the Aksaray region. It offers stunning panoramic views and is a popular destination for adventure seekers, including hikers and mountain climbers.
