The ancient city of Ephesus, situated close to the Aegean coastline, was once among the most prominent Greek cities in Anatolia. It was famously the location of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The impressive ruins of Ephesus draw numerous visitors today and are considered a significant site in Christianity due to its connections with key biblical figures such as St. Paul, St. John the Evangelist, and the Virgin Mary. Additionally, Ephesus is listed as one of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation. During Roman times, it was a bustling city with over 250,000 residents in the 1st century BC, ranking it among the largest urban centers in the ancient Mediterranean.
Ephesus has continuously served as a historical hub of importance. It functioned as a major commercial port in antiquity, later became a spiritual stronghold during the early Christian era, and today stands as a renowned global tourist destination that welcomes travelers from around the world.
When your cruise ship docks at Kusadasi Port, our professional guide and driver will be waiting for you at the terminal, holding a sign displaying your name. From there, we’ll take a short drive to visit the House of the Virgin Mary. This sacred site was brought to light thanks to the visions of Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich, a German nun, in 1812. Through her mystical dreams, she described St. John accompanying the Virgin Mary from Jerusalem to Ephesus, where he built a stone house for her—a structure which matches the one she saw in her visions.
Following this spiritual experience, we’ll continue just 10 minutes down the road to explore the Ancient City of Ephesus, one of the largest archaeological sites in the world. Our visit will include significant landmarks such as the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the Baths of Scholastica, and the Temples of Hadrian and Domitian. A major highlight will be the Library of Celsius, followed by a visit to The Grand Theatre, where St. Paul once preached. This magnificent structure was the largest theatre in the ancient world with a seating capacity of 24,000 people. We’ll spend around 2 hours walking through these incredible ruins before stopping for a delicious lunch.
After lunch, we’ll head to the historic Temple of Artemis, which was once counted among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Our final destination will be the charming Sirince Village, a short 15-minute drive away. This picturesque place remained a Greek Orthodox village until the 1924 population exchange between the newly founded Republic of Turkey and Greece, during which Greeks in Turkey were relocated and replaced by Turks from Greece. The tour will wrap up around 4:30 PM, after which we’ll return you safely to the port.
