General Info

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this region—where the epic Trojan War of Homer's ILIAD took place and where significant historical events like the Dardanelles Campaign unfolded on both sides of the Straits—is among Turkey’s most valuable cultural treasures. Troy, known as the world’s most renowned archaeological site and the birthplace of modern archaeology, exemplifies an ancient eastern city within the Aegean region.

The Gallipoli Peninsula is the resting place of many courageous soldiers from World War I. The Gallipoli Peninsula National Park (Gelibolu Yarımadası Milli Parkı) was created to honor and preserve the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the Çanakkale Campaign. The park showcases natural wonders like Arıburnu Hills (Arıburnu Tepesi) and Tuzla Lake (Tuzla Gölü), along with memorials, graves, and statues. Its green hills, sandy shores, and blue waters serve as the final resting place for many heroic soldiers. For international visitors, a trip to the Gallipoli Peninsula is often a pilgrimage of remembrance and respect. The Allied troops who landed here during World War I mainly came from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, India, and France, arriving on April 25th, 1915 with the objective to attack the Ottoman Empire, which was allied with Germany.
