Nora Ancient City Nora is a historic city located in Helvadere, a district of Aksaray. It rests at the foot of the inactive Mount Hasan, which does not pose any danger to locals or tourists. Although Nora holds considerable historical value, it has yet to be officially excavated or turned into a museum, resulting in limited knowledge about the site. It is thought that the city was originally founded as a Roman military garrison and later served the Byzantines in the same capacity. The absence of elaborate marble decorations, sophisticated water systems, and wide streets suggests its main function was as a military base rather than a civilian settlement. Despite containing approximately 1000 structures, there is no evidence it was a fully developed residential city. The design of Nora seems irregular, with rough stone masonry. Some buildings are believed to date back to the late Roman or early Byzantine era, but the majority were built in the 7th century AD. The city was deserted around the 8th century AD.
