Hierapolis Ancient City, lunch, Pamukkale Travertine Terraces
Everyday of the Year
Private Tour
Pamukkale stands out for its remarkable natural features, including warm, mineral-rich waters flowing from springs and pools. This is also the site where Hierapolis was established, an important example of a Graeco-Roman thermal spa complex. The area also hosts impressive early Christian architectural monuments.
The name Pamukkale, which means "cotton castle" in Turkish, comes from the striking mineral formations created by the hot springs. Its mineral terraces, petrified waterfalls, and tiered pools resembling a natural nymphaeum are extraordinary geological features formed by the abundant minerals in this historic place. It’s no surprise that Pamukkale ranks among Turkey’s most visited natural wonders.
The power of the hot springs to transform the landscape was believed by the ancient Greeks to possess healing properties, and a thermal spa complex was established here during the Roman era. This historic site is known as the Ancient City of Hierapolis and is one of Turkey’s most fascinating archaeological treasures.
After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up from your hotel around 09:00 AM and transfer you to Hierapolis Ancient City for a visit lasting approximately 2.5 hours. You will explore the largest Necropolis (ancient cemetery) in Turkey, the Domitian and Byzantium Gates, the Main Street, and the impressive theatre with a seating capacity of 20,000. Following the theatre tour, you’ll have some leisure time to take a swim in Cleopatra’s Pool, if you wish. Please note, an additional entrance fee of 10 Euros is required for the pool. After completing the tour of Hierapolis, we will head to the Travertine terraces.
The travertine pools are unique natural formations created by thermal springs rich in calcium bicarbonate, chalk, and limestone. These travertines flow down the hillside in a way that resembles a frozen waterfall. The tour concludes at approximately 4:00 PM, and we will then transport you back to your hotel.
