Cumalikizik

Cumalıkızık is a picturesque village situated in the Yıldırım district of Turkey, located just 10 kilometers to the east of Bursa. The village has a deep historical significance, tracing its origins to the time of the Ottoman Empire's establishment, and it is home to numerous well-preserved examples of Ottoman architectural style.

Cumalikizik

As one of the 14 villages that end in -kızık, Cumalıkızık was originally founded to generate income for the Orhan Gazi Mosque situated in the heart of Bursa's historic city. The village's name originates from the practice of people from neighboring villages gathering here for Friday prayers, as "Cuma" translates to "Friday" in Turkish. Today, only a few of these Kızık villages remain, including Değirmenlikızık, Fidyekızık, Derekızık, and Hamamlıkızık—villages that once had hamams.

In Cumalıkızık, there are still 270 Ottoman-era houses standing, with around 180 of them still inhabited and many having been carefully restored. These homes are typically two to three stories high and built with wood, rubble stones, and adobe. The quaint cobblestone streets are equipped with gutters running down the middle to direct rainwater, adding to the village's timeless charm.

Although there are no specific tourist attractions in Cumalıkızık, it is an excellent destination to stroll through the streets and immerse yourself in the genuine ambiance of a bygone era.
