Egri (Leaning) Minaret A significant historical landmark from the Seljuk Era, the Leaning Minaret of Aksaray is frequently likened to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Situated on Nevşehir Street in the center of Aksaray, this minaret stands as an important cultural heritage. Its name comes from its tilt of 3° 11'. The Egri Minaret, often referred to as the Crimson Minaret due to its distinctive red brick color, was built by skilled artisans between 1221-1236. This 30.6-meter tall structure features 92 steps and balconies on all four sides. The tilt of the minaret is believed to be a result of its original construction, rather than the influence of surrounding buildings. The tower is cylindrical, divided into two parts by a moulding. The lower section is embellished with zig-zag patterns, while the upper part is adorned with blue and green tile mosaics. In 1973, steel reinforcements were added to prevent the minaret from collapsing. Later, a mosque was built next to the minaret.
