Situated in Eastern Anatolia at an elevation of 1,750 meters (5,741 feet), Kars boasts a rich historical background and has been a key location in Turkish history. The city was central during the Turkish-Russian War of 1877-1878 and came under Russian control for approximately four decades following the conflict. The Havariler Museum is a historic church originating from the 10th century, showcasing a mix of diverse architectural styles. Its dome’s outer drum is decorated with twelve statues of apostles, portrayed in rigid poses that reflect the era of its construction.


Ani is a significant archaeological site located on the border between present-day Armenia and Turkey, known for its ancient Armenian churches that are over 1000 years old.
