Things to Know

Kırşehir, located in the heart of Anatolia, has a population of around 235,000 residents and sits at an elevation of 985 meters above sea level. The region experiences a typical central Anatolian climate, characterized by cold winters and hot summers throughout the year.

Kırşehir offers many fascinating places to explore, such as the Çiçekdağı Forest Recreation Area, Terme Thermal Springs, the ruins of Keci and Ömerhacılı Castles, the historic CaCa Bey Old Theological School (medrese), the Karakurt Baba Mosque, as well as the Mucur Underground City and the İnlimurat Underground City.

Human habitation in Kırşehir dates back to around 3000 BC, with relics from this period found in various burial mounds (tumuli) scattered across the region. Recent archaeological digs at Hashöyük, conducted by Turkish and Italian teams, have uncovered pottery shards that also date back to 3000 BC.

During the 1260s, Mustafa Nureddin Cibril Bin Cacabey, who was appointed Emir of Kırşehir, spearheaded major construction efforts throughout the Turkish era. He founded the renowned Cacabey Medrese (1272) and the Cacabey Inn. Numerous other significant and smaller structures were built under his leadership, aided by his strong ties with the Mongol authorities.
