Things to Know

Uşak is a historic city situated in the core of Western Anatolia, with its roots tracing back to around 5000 BC. Due to its geographical position, Uşak borders four major regions of Turkey—Marmara, Aegean, Central Anatolia, and the Mediterranean—which gives it a distinctive continental climate.

Over the centuries, Uşak has witnessed numerous invasions and settlements by a variety of civilizations. This rich past is visible through the surviving ancient city walls and stone inscriptions found across its districts. History enthusiasts will find the Uşak Archaeology Museum particularly fascinating, showcasing artifacts from different eras. One of the most significant collections on display is the Karun Treasure, a group of priceless artifacts dating to pre-Iron Age times. These treasures were smuggled out of Turkey in the 1960s and later repatriated from the New York Metropolitan Museum in 1993.

Uşak is also well-known for producing fine cotton textiles and bed linens, along with its world-famous handwoven carpets, celebrated for their rich colors and exquisite patterns. The region offers an abundance of recreational areas and thermal spas, providing visitors with both relaxation and natural beauty.
