Private Tour
The tours we provide are tailored for those who seek a leisurely pace, in-depth knowledge from expert guides, local dishes at intimate boutique restaurants (we avoid large bus groups with buffet-style lunches), and a more personalized, small group experience. If you are looking for tours that rush through multiple sites quickly, these might not meet your expectations.
Our guide and driver will meet you at your hotel at 10:00am to begin your exploration of the enchanting Cappadocia. We will first take you to the Göreme Open Air Museum. In the late second century, Christians escaping Roman persecution found refuge in Cappadocia, carving monasteries and churches into the rock formations. The Göreme Open Air Museum preserves 9 of the original 34 churches.
The churches here feature numerous scenes, including: Annunciation, Visitation, Proof of the Virgin, Journey to Bethlehem and Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Massacre of the Innocents, Flight into Egypt, Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, Killing of Zacharias, Pursuit of Elizabeth, Calling of St. John the Baptist, Preaching of John, John meeting Jesus, Baptism, Marriage at Cana, Miracle of the Wine, Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, Calling of the Apostles, Healing of the Blind Man, Raising of Lazarus, Entry into Jerusalem, Last Supper, Betrayal, Jesus before Pilate, Way of the Cross, Crucifixion, Descent from the Cross, Entombment, Women at the Tomb, Anastasis, and Ascension.
The second stop will be the St. Jean Church in Gülşehir town. This two-story church, located at the entrance of Gülşehir, includes a lower floor with a church, wine cellar, graves, water channels, and living quarters, while the upper floor features a church adorned with Biblical scenes. According to the inscription on the apse, the church dates back to 1212. Friezes illustrating scenes from the life of Jesus and the Bible are displayed within the borders. The colors yellow and brown are prominently used against a black background. Floral and geometrical patterns are featured on the niche vault and sides. On the west and south walls, the Last Judgement is depicted, which is a rare scene in the churches of Cappadocia.
Scenes of the St. Jean Church include: The Deesis on the apse, with the Annunciation depicted on its front, bird designs beneath that, portraits of saints in medallions on the barrel vault, the Last Supper, Betrayal by Judas, and Baptism on the south wing of the vault, with Koimesis (the Falling Asleep of Mother Mary) below. On the north wings of the vault, you’ll find the Descent from the Cross, Women at the Tomb, and Anastasis. Additionally, the Last Judgement is shown on the West and South walls.
After enjoying lunch in Avanos town, we will take you to the Pancarlik Church (open for visitation from April 1st to October 31st). This church features several scenes that are unique to Cappadocia, including The Samaritan Woman and The Healing of the Man with Bad Spirit. The church murals depict almost the entire life of Jesus, leading many scholars to believe that this church may have once served as a missionary school.
