Kesikkopru Han

Kesikkopru Han

The Kesikköprü Han is located on the right bank of the Kızılırmak River, approximately 18 km south of Kirşehir along the Kirşehir-Kayseri Road. This historic han stands next to an impressive Seljuk-era bridge that crosses the river.

Kesikkopru Han

This bridge, among the oldest surviving Seljuk bridges in Turkey, is distinguished by its 13 arches and retains its original decorative inscription plaque. It was built by Emir Nureddin Cebrail Bey in 1268 during the reign of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Keyhüsrev III, the son of Kiliçarslan IV.

The entrance to the Han was situated along the historic caravan route leaving Kirşehir, which led directly to the source of the Kızılırmak River, one of central Anatolia’s most significant and historic rivers.

Although the original stone bridge was constructed from limestone, later restorations incorporated different types of stone. The arch bridge is supported by triangular cutwaters at its base and consists of 13 arches. While the bridge itself still stands, a modern bridge built about 180 meters to the west now carries the vehicular traffic.
