The Grand Mosque of Kutahya

The Grand Mosque of Kütahya, commonly referred to as the Yıldırım Beyazit Mosque, was originally built under the rule of Yıldırım Bayezid between 1381 and 1384 and reached completion in 1401. It stands as the largest and most impressive mosque in Kütahya.

The mosque features a rectangular layout and was renovated by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan during Sultan Suleiman I's Rhodes campaign in 1893. It attained its current form after additional restoration works carried out under the rule of Abdulhamid II.

Spanning an area of 45 by 25 square meters, the mosque includes a minaret positioned at the northeast corner and has entrances on three sides, one of which opens to Sakahane. The columns inside were taken from the ancient city of Aizanoi.

Within the mosque, a small fountain sits above an intricately decorated mihrab. The main prayer hall is crowned by two adjacent domes supported by six columns, accompanied by half-domes on each side. A notable feature of the mosque is a tiled panel located to the right of the prominent mihrab, illustrating the Kaaba.
