Sulu Cave

Sulu Cave

The Sulu Cave is located in the Arzu Bayırı region within the Keskin district of Kırıkkale. This cave, which features both natural and man-made elements, is a fossil cave formed as a sinkhole with a predominantly horizontal layout. It consists of three interconnected levels and belongs to the Pliocene era’s geological formations.

The cave stretches over a total length of 285 meters, and historical lead mining activities were conducted within the man-made galleries located across its three levels. The narrow corridors linking the natural and constructed parts of the cave are enclosed by stone masonry dating back to the Early Christian Period.

From a hydrological perspective, Sulu Cave lies within the vadose zone, meaning it remains mostly dry except for droplets that fall from the ceiling during rainfall. In ancient times, water collection pools with a depth of 2 meters were built to gather this dripping water. The cave maintains a hot and arid internal climate.

The Kırıkkale Governor's Office, together with the Special Provincial Administration, has developed the site by installing visitor amenities and arranging the surrounding landscape to make the cave open to tourism.
