Suleymaniye Mosque

The Suleymaniye Mosque is located in the Çemişgezek District of Tunceli province. Although there is no inscription to clarify the time of its construction, experts classify it as an example of Regional architecture. Its architectural traits reflect influences from the Seljuk era, while also incorporating distinctive characteristics of Artukid styles that became widespread following the rise of the Artukid dynasty.

It is thought that the mosque's construction aligned with a period of increased architectural development in Çemişgezek, which was allocated to Pir Hüseyin by Sultan Selim following the Battle of Çaldıran. This indicates that the Suleymaniye Mosque was likely built during the 15th or 16th century.

Reflecting the characteristics of Seljuk architecture, the mosque is regarded as one of the most prominent historical landmarks in the area. Due to the sloping terrain, the entrance is accessed by descending several steps. A restoration carried out in the 18th century led to the loss of some of the mosque’s original architectural details.

Even though the exact date of construction remains unknown, the mosque’s authentic entrance door has survived to this day. The tiled minaret, originally built using a single brick structure and featuring one balcony, has been heavily plastered over, obscuring its initial appearance. While the minaret does not provide a precise timeline for the mosque’s construction, it suggests that the minaret predates the mosque itself.
