This site features eight tombs carved into the rock, among which are three large monumental tombs, each containing two burial chambers. Among the most intriguing tombs in the region is the Evkaya monument, which gives its name to the entire site. This tomb showcases a façade with columns and carvings of the "Potnia Theron" or "The Mistress of Animals" motif. This symbol, frequently seen in ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern art, portrays a figure holding two animals, hinting at a matriarchal deity. Although widespread in ancient iconography, the exact legends and meanings behind the Potnia Theron remain unknown. The tombs were built under Phrygian influence around the early 7th century BCE, designed as open-air structures rather than simple rock pits.
