Mus Castle The Muş Castle, situated in the center of Muş city, was built as a defense against the Mongol invasions. It functioned as a fortress for Muslim forces under the leadership of Caliph Osman for many years. Throughout this period, the castle was the site of repeated battles between Muslim and Armenian troops, as well as conflicts with Armenian governors who ruled nearby regions on behalf of the Abbasid Caliphate. Construction of the castle was completed in the 27th year of Hijra, which is approximately 677 AD. After the castle was captured by Muslims during the rule of Omar, it firmly came under Muslim control. However, intense warfare caused extensive damage to historical landmarks in the area. The Arab Cemetery, Seljuk Cemetery, and Ottoman Cemetery located on the western side of the castle were all destroyed. Nowadays, this site has been transformed into a public park maintained by the local municipality and is a favored place for residents to gather for picnics and leisure activities.
