Mimar Sinan House (House of Architect Sinan)

The birthplace of the renowned Architect Sinan, located in the Ağırnas Neighborhood of Kayseri, draws considerable attention for its historical value and striking architectural features. Sinan held the prestigious title of chief imperial architect under the rule of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (1520–1566), Selim II (1566–1574), and Murad III (1574–1595).

Mimar Sinan House (House of Architect Sinan)

Constructed from locally sourced volcanic rock, the house where Sinan spent the first 23 years of his life showcases traditional regional architecture. One of its standout features is a spacious arched hall capable of hosting up to 150 individuals at once. Inside, there is also a room equipped with a stove and hearth that served dual purposes: cooking and heating. At the top of the structure, a chimney provides ventilation and natural light.

The house is thoughtfully divided into several sections, including living quarters, animal shelters, warehouses, storage areas, a cellar, and cedar-lined storage rooms. Thanks to the natural insulating properties of the stone, the building stays cool during summer and warm in winter — a feature believed to have influenced Sinan’s architectural philosophy. In 2006, the house was officially converted into a museum, and it welcomes visitors daily between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
