Konakli (Misthi) Church

Konakli (Misthi) Church

Situated in the village of Konakli, approximately 40 km from the heart of Nigde province, the Konakli Saint Basil Church features a basilica-style design made from basalt stone. The main nave is covered with an artex roof, while the side naves each have five small domes. At the entrance to the hall, two piers supported by four columns stand prominently, and the entrance is framed by columns topped with stone.

The front facade of the Konakli (Misthi) Church is decorated with a tree of life design rising from a vase on the ornamental pier near the roofline. Flanking the larger central arch are two smaller arches set at an angle, creating visual balance, while a thick molding gracefully ascends to crown the facade with elegance. The window arches feature decorative piers and blind arches at their tops, and an inscription dated 1844 can be seen on the door beside the main entrance.

Although situated in a remote village, this church ranks among the largest in Anatolia. In 2012, Orthodox Patriarch Bartolomeus conducted a mass here attended by 500 people from across the globe. The church is currently undergoing restoration and will soon welcome visitors.
