The Necropolis is situated within the protected conservation zone of Urfa and is bordered by other safeguarded areas, including the Yenimahalle Urban Archaeological Site to the east, the Haleplibahçe Archaeopark Area to the west, and the well-known landmarks Urfa Castle and Balıklıgöl to the south. To the north lies the Bedüzzaman Cemetery.

This region is notable for its variety of cave formations, featuring Roman-era tombs, intricate reliefs, and mosaics. The area's calcareous soil has contributed to the development of many caves. The entire site covers roughly 5 hectares.

The Kızılkoyun Necropolis Archaeological Site holds great historical importance and is easily reachable. Archaeological findings include 133 rock-cut tombs dating back approximately 2,000 years, originating from the era of the Edessa Kingdom.
