Inceburun Inceburun, situated at the northwestern tip of the Sinop Peninsula jutting into the Black Sea, represents the northernmost point of Anatolia. This region is mainly composed of lava and volcanic rocks. The surface layers date back to the Upper Cretaceous (Chalk) Period, also known as the Cretaceous Period, which took place between 136 and 65 million years ago, consisting predominantly of columnar and extensively fractured basalt lavas. The Inceburun area features a composition of lava and volcanic rocks. The terrain from the Upper Cretaceous (Chalk) Period—commonly referred to as the Cretaceous Period and dating back 136 to 65 million years ago—is characterized by columnar, heavily cracked basalt lava flows. In this section, there is a zone with a greater presence of agglomerates than lava, gently sloping toward the north and northwest. Davsan Island, located just off the shore of İnceburun and encircled by steep cliffs, is made up of volcanic rock. The nearest settlement to İnceburun is the village of Kurtkuyusu. Starting from this village, if you head north towards İnceburun, then turn east and continue in that direction until reaching Başkaya Cape, you will observe that the coastline becomes rugged and deeply indented. Rising 38 meters above sea level, a prominent lighthouse constructed in 1863 stands at İnceburun (meaning "Thin Cape"), the northernmost tip of Anatolia. The lighthouse tower itself is 12 meters tall and features a gallery encircling the lantern room. It rests on a square foundation and is painted white. The light has a visibility range of 26 meters, flashing every 20 seconds. The lighthouse is open for visitors to approach, but the tower itself remains closed to the public. The responsibility of maintaining the lighthouse has been carried out by the Çilesiz Family, who are now in their fifth generation of lighthouse keepers.
