Ilgaz Mountain National Park

Ilgaz Mountain National Park

Nestled between the provinces of Çankırı and Kastamonu in Turkey, Ilgaz Mountain is a stunning natural retreat that captivates nature lovers with its serene atmosphere and spectacular landscapes.

In 1976, Ilgaz Mountain was officially designated as a national park, spanning an impressive 1,118 hectares. The park's northern slopes are covered with thick forests primarily composed of coniferous species, which has led to its poetic nickname, "the sea of trees". Shaped by ancient geological activity, the terrain supports a rich mix of trees including larch, juniper, black pine, pine, and fir. The region receives abundant rainfall throughout the year, creating an ideal environment for a variety of wildlife such as boars, roe deer, wolves, bears, and foxes.

Ilgaz Mountain is rapidly gaining recognition as a top spot for winter sports, especially due to its close proximity to Ankara. The mountain features three ski tracks that are 750, 1000, and 1500 meters long, along with two ski lifts capable of transporting up to 700 skiers per hour. With snowfall reaching depths of up to 3 meters, it provides excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding throughout the winter season.

In the warmer months, Ilgaz Mountain becomes a sanctuary for those wishing to get away from the fast pace of urban life. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as trekking, hiking, climbing, and horseback riding. The mountain offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational adventure, making it a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
