Firtina River and Bridges

Firtina River and Bridges

The Eastern Black Sea Region is home to many rivers and streams, yet one river is especially renowned: the Fırtına River, often referred to as the Storm Creek.

Firtina River and Bridges

Stretching over 68 kilometers, the Fırtına River begins in the Kaçkar Mountains within Rize Province and flows into the Black Sea, traversing the districts of Çamlıhemşin and Ardeşen. For many centuries, it has been a vital route for tea merchants, while its scenic charm attracts enthusiasts of rafting and sport fishing, especially families with children.

Along the river, there are over 20 Ottoman-era bridges dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, with some possibly older. These well-maintained bridges, including Çamlıhemşin, Kaptanpaşa, Buzlupınar, Köprüköy, Şenyuva, Mikron, and Ardeşen, are thought to have been built by local craftsmen under the supervision of Ottoman officials.
