Erzurum Castle Erzurum Castle, located in the city of Erzurum in Eastern Anatolia, offers stunning panoramic views of both the mountains and the city below. With a modest entrance fee, visitors can explore the castle’s historic 12th-century minaret, which has been transformed into a clock tower that still features its original working mechanism. Erzurum Castle To reach the summit, visitors must navigate 67 uneven stone steps along a winding staircase, followed by a very steep ladder with no designated resting areas. The Inner Castle, perched on a hill approximately 2000 meters above sea level in a mountainous area, was constructed during the 5th century by Theodosius the Great. Originally serving as military barracks, it was later transformed into a modern art museum by the Turkish government. Within the castle grounds, other prominent landmarks include the Clock Tower and a Mosque. The minaret, originally named Tepsi Minare, was constructed in 1137 by Abu'l Muzafferüdin Gazi, who ruled from 1124 to 1132. During the Ottoman Baroque Architectural Period, this minaret was transformed into a clock tower. The mosque, modest in size and crowned with a single large dome, reflects classic elements of traditional Turkish Architecture.
