Chrome Valley (Krom Vadisi)

Chrome Valley, which has held a strategic position since ancient times and hosted significant settlements such as İmera and Horsetail, continues to capture interest even today. Its abundant mineral resources attracted thousands of people to the region centuries ago.

The area is home to 15 registered churches and chapels, along with an arch bridge and a castle. The Greek stone houses in the region have preserved their original architecture.

Although the history of the region remains largely unclear, research has shown that the people of Chrome Valley were originally Christian but gradually lost their original language after adopting Christianity. During a population exchange in the 1920s, the Christian community was relocated, but they managed to preserve their faith until then.

Up until the 1700s, the lifestyle of the people in Chrome Valley remained largely unchanged. However, Islam was presented as a privilege to the Christians living in the area, and many of them converted to Islam during that time.

In 1856, the emperor granted religious freedom to all individuals, allowing Christians to begin restoring their damaged churches and constructing new ones. The region’s high altitude and fresh air make it a favored summer retreat for nomads from surrounding provinces.

The people of the region have made great efforts to preserve the historical monuments and maintain them in excellent condition. One of the few churches with an intact roof can be found in this area. With its untouched natural beauty and centuries-old heritage, this region deserves to be protected and receive special attention.
