Cemil Church The Cemil Church, also referred to as the Holy Cross Church, was consecrated and inaugurated in 1882 by Archpriest Paisios. It is situated at the entrance of Cemil village, approximately 15 kilometers from Ürgüp and 38 kilometers from Nevşehir. The church is dedicated to the Holy Cross, and its construction began on May 21st, a notable day in Christianity as it commemorates the day when Christianity was officially adopted by the Roman Empire. The church was finished later that same year and was opened for religious services. The church features a simple design with a cradle-vaulted roof and measures 24.5 meters in length and 14.5 meters in width. The church's smooth stonework stands out, and it is situated right in front of a two-storey, sturdy bell tower. On the northeast side of the church, there is an ancient chapel carved into the rock, adorned with paintings on both sides. The paintings are dated 1913 and 1914, respectively. The Narthex of the church features six arched columns, a characteristic element in Byzantine churches. These columns divide the central part of the worship area from the outer section. In 2014, a religious service was held at this site by Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew.
