Sultan Divani Mevlevihanesi The Sultan Divani Mevlevihanesi is a historic Mevlevi lodge in Anatolia, with roots tracing back to the 13th century, and is regarded as one of the most prominent lodges following the Konya Mevlevihanesi. Constructed in the 16th century by Sultan Divani, a 7th-generation descendant of Mevlana, the lodge became a key spiritual and religious hub for the Mevlevi order. The lodge has served as a vital center for Mawlawiyya activities, featuring cells where dervishes retreat in solitude for a period of 1001 days, as well as sacred tombs that are frequently visited during spiritual tours. What sets the Sultan Divani Mevlevihane apart is its observance of the Ashura tradition, which involves the recitation of the Qur’an (hatim) forty times. Each year, on the 10th day of Muharram, the Ashura ceremonies take place with Qur’anic recitations performed over 40 cauldrons. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a special fasting dessert prepared for this occasion is shared with attendees.
