Shahzades Museum

Shahzades Museum

The Shahzades Museum is a beautifully restored, two-story historical house constructed with a traditional timber frame. Carefully renovated to reflect its original architecture, the building now serves as a cultural attraction featuring lifelike sculptures of Ottoman sultans who were educated in the city as shahzades. These statues, dressed to match their historical portraits, are thoughtfully placed throughout the museum.

As you explore the museum, you’ll step into a faithful recreation of a Turkish residence from the 15th to 16th centuries. The walls are embellished with elegant Hava and Rumi motifs, while the ceilings display intricate calligraphy. Vibrant, detailed carpets cover the floors, harmonizing beautifully with the overall interior decor.

On the upper floor, seven statues represent Yıldırım Beyazid Khan, Çelebi Mehmet Khan, Murat Khan II, Sultan Mehmet Khan (Mehmet the Conqueror), Beyazid Khan II, Sultan Selim III, and Murat I. The ground floor displays five additional statues of Shahzade Mustafa and Shahzade Beyazid (sons of Süleyman the Magnificent), Shahzade Ahmet and Shahzade Alaeddin (sons of Murat Khan II), as well as Shahzade Ahmet (son of Beyazid Khan II), all of whom were educated as shahzades in Amasya but never ascended to the throne.

The museum also offers a video documentary highlighting key moments in the education and leadership of these historical figures. Lasting thirty minutes, the film provides valuable context about the events surrounding these shahzades. Visitors receive earphones to listen to English translations of the narration. The Special Provincial Administration manages the Shahzades Museum, which has an affordable admission fee. Guests are encouraged to take photographs and record videos during their visit.
