Itinerary Details

The Private North Cappadocia Red Tour, including lunch, will begin at 10:00 AM from your hotel in Goreme. The journey starts with a visit to the Uçhisar Castle Viewpoint, the tallest rock formation in Cappadocia. Your guide will explain the geological forces behind the creation of this extraordinary landscape.

At the Zelve Open Air Museum, your guide will highlight the importance of Christianity and monastic traditions in Cappadocia. While Zelve may lack the richly decorated frescoes found at other sites, it features an extensive maze of rooms and tunnels. The valley is also known for its many pointed "fairy chimneys," some of which reach approximately 40 feet above the valley floor. The tour proceeds to Çavuşin village, where you will explore the stronghistoric old Greek houses left abandoned after the 1924 Greek-Turkish population exchange. You will then enjoy a strongdelicious lunch in Avanos, offering a variety of traditional Cappadocian dishes such as mezes, fresh salads, meat and vegetarian options, and sweet desserts.

After lunch, you will explore a genuine family-owned pottery workshop nestled inside an underground cave. The clay used here comes from the Kızılırmak (Red) River and has been crafted into pottery since the Hittite civilization before 1800 BC. Watch a skilled potter in action and admire the detailed designs created by the painters and glazers. Visitors are encouraged to try their skills on the potter’s wheel and make their own distinctive pottery creation. Next, the tour continues to Paşabağ, also known as Monks Valley, named after the Chapel of Saint Simeon found there. Stroll among the remarkable clusters of multi-headed, mushroom-shaped “fairy chimneys”. The day finishes with a visit to Devrent Valley, a breathtaking area where the natural rock formations take on various imaginative shapes, including the iconic camel-shaped rock. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel around 4:00 PM.
