Kemaliye Lök Tatlısı, also known as Eğin Lök Tatlısı, is a traditional dessert from the Kemaliye district in Erzincan province. It is made by grinding dried mulberries together with walnuts into a paste-like texture using a stone mill. The dessert is prepared using Kemaliye Dutu / Eğin Dutu, which holds the geographical indication registration number 813.

Since the town of Kemaliye was formerly called Eğin, both names—Kemaliye Lök Tatlısı and Eğin Lök Tatlısı—are used interchangeably for this product. The dessert is traditionally made either in special production places called “lökhane” or at home using stone mortars.

Production Method:

Preparation: The dried Kemaliye Dutu / Eğin Dutu is cleaned using a mulberry sorting machine and then ground in a stone mill. Afterward, crushed walnuts are mixed into the ground mulberries, and the blend is pounded between 3500 and 5000 times using stone, iron, or bronze mortars until it achieves a smooth, paste-like texture. The final product is usually shaped into molds measuring 7-8 cm in length and 2 cm in thickness, or according to packaging preferences. When packaged, the product can be stored for up to 6 months in a cool, dry place, while the unpackaged version can be kept for 15 days.
