Kaleici

Located in the very center of Antalya, Kaleiçi is a picturesque neighborhood known for its charming boutique hotels, museums, historical sites, elegant cafes, restaurants, and unique artisan shops. This historic area is enclosed by ancient walls, with main entrances positioned at the eastern and western sides. The surrounding walls reflect a rich blend of architectural heritage from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman eras.

Within these walls, nearly 3,000 traditional houses with distinctive tile roofs stand as fine examples of the region’s authentic architecture and cultural heritage. In contrast, the structures outside the walled area exhibit more pronounced elements of Ottoman design.

Hadrian's Gate serves as the main entrance to Kaleiçi and stands as one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Antalya. Constructed by the Romans in 130 CE, it was built to honor the visit of Emperor Hadrian.

Another major attraction within Kaleiçi is the Yivli Minaret Complex, which represents the architectural heritage of the Seljuk period. This historical site consists of several significant structures, including the Yivli Minaret, Yivli Mosque (Yivli Cami), Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev Madrasah, Seljuk Madrasah (also known as the Mevlevihane), and the Nigar Hatun Mausoleum. The Yivli Minaret, dating back to the 13th century, is recognized as one of the earliest examples of Islamic architecture in Antalya and was constructed by the Seljuks.

To the south of the Kaleiçi neighborhood lies the Historic Marina, where numerous tour boats operate, offering daily cruises that highlight the region’s breathtaking coastal cliffs and waterfalls.

The Karatay Madrasa is yet another architectural highlight in the region, known for its exquisite mihrab that features detailed niches and decorative motifs.

Karaalioğlu Park, one of the prominent attractions in Kaleiçi, spans an expansive area of 140,000 square meters. The park is designed with three scenic roads running parallel to the sea, offering visitors three separate viewing terraces along the coast. It is home to Antalya’s rich flora and fauna, showcasing a wide range of trees, plants, flowers, and bird species.

Situated within the walls of Kaleiçi, the historic Hıdırlık Tower stands proudly in Karaalioğlu Park. Built in the 2nd century, this 14-meter-high tower originally served a military and defensive function. It is constructed with a square foundation that transitions into a cylindrical upper structure, believed to have been used as a watchtower.
