Hazeranlar Mansion

Hazeranlar Mansion

Situated in Yalıboyu, the Hazeranlar Mansion represents an outstanding example of 19th-century residential architecture that has been preserved until today. Built in 1865 by Hasan Talat Efendi as a tribute to his sister, Hazeran Hanım, the mansion has a rich history of continuous habitation and is regarded as a distinguished residence.

The mansion is an excellent representation of Ottoman civil architecture, featuring four iwans and a central sofa area. Its design incorporates distinct quarters for women (haremlik) and men (selamlık), along with a private inner courtyard. The first restoration work started in 1979 and concluded in 1983, after which the mansion was opened to visitors as a museum house.

The Hazeranlar Mansion exhibits 984 ethnographic items, including carpets, kilims, kitchen utensils, and women’s jewelry, providing a vivid insight into life during the 19th century. Of special importance are carpets with inscriptions, traditional caftans adorned with metallic embroidery (bindallıs), as well as silver and gilded jewelry that beautifully represent the period. Currently, the museum-house occupies the upper floors, while an art gallery is located in the basement.
