This tour offers you the chance to experience the finest flavors of Turkish Cuisine while also visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Goreme Open Air Museum all in one day.
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 10:00 and first take you to one of the local markets in Cappadocia (except on Tuesdays and Thursdays) where you will select fresh ingredients for the meal you will prepare yourself. Next, we will bring you to a traditional local home to begin cooking. You will start by learning how to make Turkey’s most famous soup: lentil soup. Lentils have been cultivated in Turkey for centuries and this soup is beloved for its rich and comforting flavor. While your lentil soup simmers, you will move on to prepare Karniyarik (stuffed eggplant). Eggplant is a staple in Turkish cooking, and Karniyarik is one of the most delicious dishes featuring it. This dish consists of eggplant filled with a mixture of finely chopped onions, garlic, black pepper, tomatoes, parsley, and ground meat.
The following dish you will prepare is the well-known Sarma, a beloved Turkish specialty. Sarma consists of vine leaves stuffed and cooked in olive oil. Our local hostess will share valuable tips on selecting the best vine leaves and demonstrate the rolling techniques that make this dish so special. This part of the tour is often the most engaging and delightful. While visiting the local market, we will also pick up some fresh fruit to enjoy as dessert. To conclude, our hostess will serve you authentic Turkish Coffee. Although coffee itself is not native to Turkey, the unique way it is prepared here has created its own cultural tradition known as Turkish Coffee. You will learn the preparation method, the customs around drinking it, and its fascinating history.
After this memorable culinary experience, we will take you to the Goreme Open Air Museum. Since the 2nd century, Cappadocia has been a significant Christian hub, and the Goreme Open Air Museum is the prime site to explore this heritage. We will tour some of the best-preserved churches in Cappadocia, dating from the 5th to the 13th centuries. Our guide will provide insights into the history of Christianity in the region, the stunning frescoes, and monastic life. Your visit will also include The Dark Church, which requires an additional entrance fee.
The tour concludes at approximately 4:30pm, and we will ensure you are safely returned to your hotel. The cost of this tour is 120 Euro per person, which covers your guide, transportation to and from your hotel, entrance fees, and the meal. For solo travelers, the price is 180 Euro per person.
