Bolvadin Museum Located around 50 kilometers from the center of Afyonkarahisar, the town of Bolvadin boasts a deep-rooted history dating back to ancient civilizations. Once a part of the historic region of Phrygia, the town was called Polybotum during the Roman Empire and featured a notable fortress from that period. Over time, it came under the control of the Seljuk Turks and was later incorporated into the Ottoman Empire, where it served as a key transit point through mountainous terrain. Due to the devoted efforts of Muharrem Bayar to educate students at Bolvadin High School (Lise), a substantial collection of historical artifacts was assembled. As the number of pieces increased, the need for a dedicated space led to the establishment of the Bolvadin Museum. Today, this museum allows visitors to discover the town's rich cultural legacy, which reflects its Phrygian, Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman influences. The Bolvadin Museum was initially founded in 1987 following the refurbishment of the former Municipal Cinema. In 2008, it experienced a significant upgrade when it was relocated to the historical Yanık Barracks. Today, the museum functions as an important center that honors Bolvadin’s historical and cultural legacy. Inside the museum, visitors can explore a collection of over 1,000 artifacts representing numerous time periods, including the Old Bronze Age, as well as the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Ottoman, and Republican eras. One of the standout elements of the museum is its display of traditional Bolvadin arts and crafts, such as soft cream production, wickerwork, and various handmade items that reflect the region’s cultural heritage. The Bolvadin Museum is organized across two levels. On the ground floor, guests can visit spaces designed to reflect local life, including a traditional Bolvadin living room, a bridal chamber, a conference area, and a general exhibition hall. The upper floor features another exhibit space along with a library. With its rich displays and wide-ranging collection, the museum offers an engaging journey through Bolvadin’s cultural history.
