St Paul’s Church (Bebekli Church)

St Paul’s Church (Bebekli Church)

Located in the center of Adana, St. Paul Church, also referred to as Bebekli Kilise, is a Catholic church situated close to 5 Ocak Square and Cemal Gürsel Street.

The church is commonly known as the "Church with Baby" (Bebekli Kilise) due to a striking 2.5-meter-tall bronze statue of Mary, which many passersby believe resembles a baby. This distinctive feature has made the church an easily identifiable landmark for both locals and visitors.

St Paul’s Church (Bebekli Church)

Dedicated to St. Paul, Bebekli Church honors Saul of Tarsus, widely known as St. Paul the Apostle, a significant figure in Christian doctrine. Born in Tarsus, which is located near Adana, St. Paul dedicated his life to spreading the message of Christianity, undertaking three major journeys to educate people about the faith. Although he was executed by the Romans for his efforts to share the Gospel with both Jews and Gentiles, his legacy lives on through the Church.

Today, Bebekli Church serves both the Catholic and Orthodox communities of Adana. To support the church financially, the garden area has been converted into a parking lot.
