Barhal (Parkhali) Church

Barhal (Parkhali) Church

Situated in Altıparmak Village, approximately 30 kilometers from the center of Yusufeli town, the Barhal (Parkhali) Church stands as an exceptional example of medieval Georgian architecture and a Georgian Orthodox monastic church. Historical records indicate that the church was constructed by King David III Kurapalat during the 10th century and was consecrated in honor of John the Baptist.

The church's nave walls are high and sharply defined, with remarkable façade carvings. A distinctive feature of Parkhali Church is its long wall that divides the central nave from the side wings, decorated with painted depictions. The overall dimensions of the church are approximately 28 x 18 meters.
