Artvin (Livane) Castle

Artvin (Livane) Castle

Artvin Castle, located in the Çayağzı Neighborhood of Artvin, sits on a hillside and is connected to the bedrock 70 meters below the river, with another connection to the road that runs from Erzurum to Samsun. Within the castle grounds, there are remnants of a cistern and a chapel.

Initially constructed as a Georgian fortress in 937 by King Osett the Great under the name Livane, the castle was later seized by the Ottomans in the 16th century and underwent various repairs over the years. Today, located in a military zone, the castle was renovated in 2004 to restore its original beauty.
