Akdegirmen

Akdegirmen

Akdeğirmen is an ancient mill situated in the village of Kızıltahta, along the banks of the Ceyhan River in the Karataş district. Although it holds considerable historical value, the mill has yet to receive official recognition as a heritage site.

Akdegirmen

Built as an extension of the bridge piers that stretch into the flowing waters of the river, the mill is thought to originate from the era of Roman rule. The Akdegirmen Bridge, where the mill is situated, also holds significant historical value and is believed to have been constructed by the Romans in the 3rd century AD using a combination of stone and concrete, which contributes to its remarkable durability in water. Although the structure remained in use up until the 1960s, it was sadly left unused and fell into neglect in the years that followed.

With restoration projects currently in progress, the historic bridge and mill are expected to become a significant hub for tourism in the Ceyhan region. Visitors will have the chance to explore the area’s rich historical heritage while admiring the distinctive architecture of the Akdegirmen Bridge and mill.
