Aigeai, which dates back to the 2nd century BCE, was a significant port city, as shown by coins from this era bearing inscriptions. Modern archaeologists continue to extract valuable insights into ancient life through their discoveries at this intriguing site. The city was thoroughly documented by three notable Roman writers: Pausanias, Tacitus, and Strabon.

One of the most remarkable locations in Aigeai is the Asclepion, a temple dedicated to healing and well-being. For centuries, people have come to this temple seeking cures for conditions like headaches and arthritis. In the summer of 215 AD, Emperor Caracalla visited this ancient town and experienced the renowned health services at the Asclepion, departing with nothing but positive memories.
